Academic Clemency Rules

**It’s essential to meet with an Advisor before pursuing Academic Clemency at NorthWest Arkansas Community College.** They can help you understand how Clemency will affect **your** academic record **and** confirm if you qualify. **Arkansas Act 1000 of 1991** lets returning students start fresh without past academic records affecting their GPA. Students may apply for Academic Clemency to exclude previous grades and credits from their cumulative GPA, following these guidelines: - For **returning** students who haven’t attended **any** college for **2+ years**. - Completed **one semester** at NWACC with a **2.0 GPA in 6+ credits**. - **Can only be used one-time** at NWACC.

**What does Academic Clemency Cover?** - Covers **all courses from the term(s) granted**. - **Transcripts stay complete - we do not remove the course from your record**; forgiven courses are marked: *“Academic Clemency Granted (date).”* - **Forgiven courses do NOT:** - Count in your GPA - Fulfill prerequisites - Count toward graduation - **Financial aid:** GPA not affected, but Course Completion Rate is. Sign into MyNWACC

### **Get Started with MyNWACC** 1. Go to <https://www.nwacc.edu/> and click **Login** in the top right corner. 2. Select **MyNWACC** from the menu. 3. When the MyNWACC page opens, click **Login** again in the top right corner. **Tip:** Use **Chrome** or **Firefox** for the best experience. Once logged into **MyNWACC**, find **Applications** on the **Welcome** page and click **Workday** to access your student account.

Once you're in **Workday**, type **Create Request** into the search bar. Then, click on the **Create Request** task from the search results.

Academic Clemency

Click the **Request Type** box, select **All**

**Click** on **Academic Clemency Request** in the list and then **click OK** to move to the next step.

Read the **Academic Clemency instructions and requirements carefully** before you begin. **Once you’ve reviewed them, scroll down to begin the questions.**

For your **Current Program of Study** - If you're unsure, take these steps: 1. Open Workday in a separate tab. 2. Click **Menu** (top left) → **Student** → **Academics**. 3. Under **Academic Advising**, click **View My Academic Progress**.

Click **Follow this Guide** for help accessing your unofficial NWACC transcript. Confirm your documentation was **successfully uploaded**. **Upload your documentation using the box under the question**. You can ignore the box at the bottom of the page.

**Click Submit** ⚠️ **Note:** Clicking **Save for Later** won't submit it for review! Please **upload your documentation using the first upload box only**. You can ignore the second upload box at the bottom of the page.

After you submit your request, you’ll see a message **confirming** that it was sent to the **Chief Student Affairs Office** for their review.

Check the Status

**Check Your Academic Clemency Request in Workday** 1. Go to your **Workday Inbox** (top right – inbox icon). 2. Click the **Archive** tab and find **Request Process: Academic Clemency Request**. 3. Status meanings: - **In Progress** – Still under review - **Successfully Completed** – Approved and processed - **Denied** – Declined; check your NWACC student email for details
