How to Set Up Astro Points?

A points-based loyalty program is another option for retailers that is separate from other individual programs offered at the store. Astro Points is an additional service for $20/mo per location. Astro Points is capable of integrating with multiple POS systems. Pairing Astro Points and the Astro Marketing Suite unlocks additional features and automations.

👾 **POS Integration with Astro Points** 👾 Astro Points integrates with several POS systems through a **REST API**, including: *Celerant, eTailPet, Petshop360, and Pinogy.* Some POS systems require additional setup to handle specific events and rewards. These extra steps are called out (👾) in this guide—feel free to skip them if they don’t apply to your setup. How to Create a Point Event

Log into Astro as an **Admin user**.

Click "**Actions**"

Click "**My Points Setup**"

Click this checkbox.

**What are Events & Rewards?** Loyalty Points programs require both an **Event** and a **Reward** to function properly. - An **Event** is the description of the Loyalty Points Platform you want to use and its program requirements. You can create an **Action Event** or a **Purchase Event**. An Action Event rewards points based on an action, such as volunteering at an adoption event or posting on your social media. A Purchase Event rewards points based on dollars spent at your store. You can choose how many points or fractions of a point you want customers to earn based on an Action performed or a Dollar spent. - A **Reward** is the offering when the program requirements have been met.

Click "**Add Event**"

You can set up Events that allow customers to earn points and designate the amount of points earned by each event. These Events and the points generated by them are fully customizable for your store. You can also choose to run multiple events at one time if you would like to allow your customers to earn points more than one way.

Add an **Event Title** This title will appear to both your customers and staff: - Customers will see it in the [Astro App](https://support.astroloyalty.com/portal/en/kb/articles/my-loyalty-points-astro-mobile-app-customer-view) - Cashiers will see it during checkout Be sure to use clear, specific titles—especially if you’re running multiple Point Events—so customers can easily tell them apart in the app.

You can give your primary Points Event (earn 1 point per $1 spent) a fun name, like "Kat's Pup Points." Then give each of the additional events their own unique identifying names, such as: - Newsletter Sign Up Points - Because It's Your Birthday, Points! - Double Point Tuesdays - Food Drive Points - Bonus Points - V.I.Pet Points

Add a **Description** Here's where you can explain precisely how they earn points via this event. Include any conditions, such as "only available in-store."

**Dollar Amount** - Enter how many dollars the customer must spend in order to earn points. Whole numbers only, such as 1.

Most common is $1 = 1 Point.

**Points Equivalent -** Enter how many points the customer will earn based on the **Dollar Amount** you set above. For example, enter **1** if you want the customer to earn 1 point for every **Dollar Amount** spent.

👾 The next step only pertains to RestAPI POS system users. Skip Step 11 if this does not apply to you. 👾

👾 **RestAPI Default Event** 👾 If you use a POS Integration that uses RESTAPI *(Celerant, eTailPet, FranPOS, Petshop360, Pinogy, etc*), you will see an additional field called **RESTAPI Default Event**. If you want your POS integration to communicate with your Astro Points program, set the Default Event to **Yes**.

**Redeemable Same Day** The **Redeemable Same Day** setting lets you choose whether customers can use the points they just earned on the same transaction they earned them in. **Here’s why that matters:** Let’s say a customer spends **$100** and earns **100 points**. If you allow them to redeem those 100 points right away to get **$5 off that same purchase**, they’re only spending **$95**, not **$100**. Which means they technically didn’t spend enough to earn all 100 points in the first place. This is why we usually **recommend turning off Redeemable Same Day**, especially for point systems that only reward dollar-off discounts. The **Redeemable Same Day** setting is optional. Check the box if you would like customers to be able to redeem their points the same day they earn them. Leave the box unchecked if you only want them to be able to redeem points they earned more than 24 hours in the past.

**Maximum Allowed** The **Maximum Allowed** box lets you set a limit on how many points a customer can earn in one purchase. *For example, if you only want a customer to earn up to 200 points at a time, type **200** in that box. How to Create a Reward Event

After setting up the **Points Earning Events**, you can set up **Reward Opportunities** for your customers. Reward opportunities are typically products or store credit that a customer can receive when they earn enough points from participating in points-earning events.

Click "**Add Reward**"

Enter a **Reward Title** This title will be visible to both your customer and your staff: - Customers will see it in the [Astro App](https://support.astroloyalty.com/portal/en/kb/articles/my-loyalty-points-astro-mobile-app-customer-view) - Cashiers will see it during checkout and when redeeming rewards Make sure the title clearly explains what the reward is—so customers know what they’re getting, and staff know what to give.

Enter a **Description**.

👾 The next two steps are only for RestAPI POS Users. You can skip ahead to **Step 19** if this doesn't apply to you. 👾

👾 **Rest API Reward Type** 👾 You will see an additional field for **REST API Reward Type**. Since this type of POS integration can automatically apply the reward to your sale, you need to tell it what type of reward to apply. You can choose: - **Instant Rebate** - $ Off - **Percentage** **Discount** - % Off - **Free** **Item** - Rewards a specific item for free (requires UPC)

👾 **Rest API Reward Value** 👾 What you enter in this field is dependent on the option you chose for your **Rest API Reward Type**. If you chose: - **Instant** **Rebate** - Enter a whole number, like 5, 10, etc. (**Ex.** 5 = $5 Off) - **Percentage** **Discount** - Enter a whole number, like 5, 10, etc. (**Ex.** 5 = 5% Off) - **Free** **Item** - Enter the full UPC of the free item. (**Ex.** This is the UPC associated with the product's barcode and must exist in your POS system.)

**Points Required** - How many points must the customer earn before they are able to redeem this reward? Enter that value in this field.

**Max Redemption Per Customer & Max Lifecycle Per Customer** These two settings work together: - **Max Redemption** = how many times a customer can redeem a reward - **Max Lifecycle** = the time period in which those redemptions take place **Example:** To allow a customer to redeem a reward *once every 30 days*, set: - **Max Redemption** = 1 - **Max Lifecycle** = 30 days **Default setting:** - **Max Redemption** = Unlimited - **Max Lifecycle** = All Time This means customers can redeem the reward as often as they want, with no time limit. Lock in your **Max Redemption** settings for **Per** **Customer** and **Lifecyle**, or you can leave them at their default settings.
