How to find a case, using Lexis+

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to find a case using Lexis+. It explains how to search for a case by name or citation, how to access the full law report text, and how to find related documents such as linked cases, commentary, and journal articles. Click on the dropdown arrow on the right of the long search box

Choose "Cases"

Type either the name of a case or its citation in the box

Tip! You can search for a case by either its name or its citation. Sometimes there's variation in how the names of cases are written, particuarly if one of the parties has a long name. This means you may not find it if you search for it by its name. Click on the magnifying glass to run your search.

Click on the citation of a case to read the full law report text. If you have several citations (there are two in this example), then just click on the first one.

Down the right of the case, you will see some "related documents". Click on the links here to see: cases that are linked to your case, commentary in Halsbury's Laws of England and some journal articles that discuss your case.

If you want, click on the download icon to save the case to your computer

Alternatively, from the search results page you can click on the "overview" link

This will give you a short summary of the facts of the case. It will show you newer cases that refer to your case, and also older cases that your case made reference to.
