How to sign up for a Forage Fish volunteer shift using our new Volunteer platform

Start at the Forage Fish Volunteer Calendar: <https://projectwatershed.ca/forage-fish-volunteer-calendar/>

Scroll through the calendar and click on an event you are interested in. Note: blue events are full, yellow events still need volunteers.

Checkout the event details (location, date/time, and info) and if you would like to sign up click the big blue "Register" button. Click "Back to Events" on the top left if you would like to return to the calendar view to see more events before registering.

If you have already created an account this is where you sign in. If this is your first time using Civic Champs, click "Create an account" at the bottom.

Fill in your details and create a password.

Click "Sign Up"

Now you need to confirm your email address so that we know you will be able to get messages from this platform. Check your email for a message from [donotreply@civicchamps.com](mailto:donotreply@civicchamps.com) containing a 6-digit code and enter it here, then click "Verify Account."

Now that your account has been created, we're back to registering you in the volunteer shift you selected initially. Choose "Forage Fish Sampling Assistant" from the dropdown menu and click "Register."

Now it will take you through some questions to register you as a volunteer. You will have to complete these steps even if you have already volunteered with us as we weren't able to transfer over all the information from our old system. It will ask you to agree to the waiver (which you can expand by clicking "READ FULL WAIVER").

Then it will ask you for some other information, such as your emergency contact, and whether you consent to photos.

If you have any medical information that would be important for us to know while you're out on site with us, please enter it here - otherwise leave these fields blank. Note that all personal information will be kept confidential.

There may be other questions associated with the specific volunteer opportunity you just signed up for - select and answer, and click "SUBMIT."

And now you're all set! Check your email for a confirmation message containing a link to log in and manage your shifts if desired. The system will send you an automated reminder email 24 hours before your shift. Note that forage fish shifts are subject to change due to weather and tides, so please watch for emails directly from Virginia with more information - and always defer to the emails from Virginia rather than the ones from Civic Champs if there is a discrepancy. Thanks for helping us trial this new volunteer software! It is a bit of an adjustment, but we're hopeful that it will streamline things and save us lots of staff time.
