How use HeinOnline to find journal articles

This guide offers step-by-step instructions to using HeinOnline to find journal articles. HeinOnline is particularly useful for international law and US law. You'll learn how to search, sort your search results and download articles.

Heinonline

Go to <https://heinonline-org.oxfordbrookes.idm.oclc.org/HOL/Welcome>

Click in the "Search for a term, title, author, or citation..." box.

Enter your search words. If you have a phrase, like "multinational enterprises" here, then put it in speechmarks. This means HeinOnline will only search for those words when they appear next to each other.

As you start to type your search words, a drop down list will appear below the search box. When you have finished typing, select 'just search for'.

At the top of your results list, you'll see how many results there are.

If you wish, you can change the order your results are sorted in. For example, you could have the newest articles at the top or the most cited articles at the top. To do this, click on the 'sort by' drop down above your results.

You can quickly download any article by clicking on the PDF icon on the right.

To open an article, click on its title

You will see the first page of the article. Use the left/right arrows at the top to move through the article.

You can use the page number drop down to jump to a particular page.

You can also download the article from this page, by clicking on the PDF icon at the top

If you want to run a new search, you'll find a search box above your article

Every article in HeinOnline is part of a collection. If you search from this page, be aware you're just searching in the collection your current article came from. Here, this is 'Core US Journals.' The easiest way to search everything is go back to the HeinOnline homepage.
