Importing data from a picture into Excel

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to import data from a picture into Excel. It is useful if you need to quickly transfer data from a screenshot, scan or photo into a spreadsheet format.

Launch Excel

Click "Microsoft Excel".

Select your image

Click the "Data" tab.

Click "From Picture".

Then click "Picture From File..."

Select your image containing your data. This should be in table format for best results, but will import as text or number values from a picture.

Check the data you are importing is correct

The "Data from Picture" window will come up showing you the image and asking you to review, i.e. correct anything it has not understood or insert the data.

This system used OCR (optical character recognition) and is not perfect, so its important to review and correct any errors and some formatting may be required after import.

If you are happy, inset the data.
