Initiating the J-1 Scholar Transfer Out Process in MyOISS

The J-1 SEVIS transfer-out process is initiated by the J-1 scholar. Once you've confirmed your transfer plans, including transfer eligibility approval by your new institution, you can begin the process to request your J-1 SEVIS record to be released by Yale to your new institution.

Navigate to your Requests tab to see 'Scholar Available Requests' and select 'J-1 Scholar Transfer Out'.

Click into the 'J-1 Scholar Transfer Out Request' form under 'My To-Do List'.

Enter your last day at Yale and the name of your new institution.

After entering details and signing, click 'Submit'.

Next, return to 'My To-Do List' and click into the 'Yale J-1 Transfer- Out Request - Department Confirmation of Appointment End Date' link to provide contact information for your current Yale department and route a signature form to them.

Enter your current Yale department contact information here and submit.

Then click into the 'Yale J-1 Transfer-Out Request - Response Needed from New Institution'.

Enter the contact information for your A/RO at your new institution and submit. They will then be sent a form to provide additional details OISS will need in order to release your J-1 SEVIS record to them.

Once your steps are completed, your current Yale department and new institution will need to complete their parts before OISS can schedule your J-1 program transfer in SEVIS.
