**Create a Turnitin Assignment in a Moodle course** so that students can first submit an assignment that will later be reviewed by a peer. Start by opening the original assignment.

Click the **"Settings" gear** in the right side of the Turnitin Assignment Inbox.

Click the **"Enable PeerMark" checkbox** below the Title and Instructions fields. Make a note of the Start Date, Due Date and Feedback Release Date - these will be important when dates are set up in the PeerMark assignment. Click **Submit** to enable PeerMark. Note: The grade for this assignment will ONLY be based on the submission of the essay. No grade for the PeerMark work is transferred to the Moodle Gradebook.

The PeerMark tab will appear next to the "Assignment Inbox" and "Analytics" tabs. Click "Peermark"

Click "PeerMark Setup" from the drop down.

Ignore the "Maximum Points Available" - even if this is set with a number, no grade will be created in Moodle for the PeerMark assignment. If you want to grade this work, you would need to [create a manual grade item](https://ncsu.service-now.com/delta?id=kb_article_ml&sysparm_article=KB0021219) in Moodle and then enter the grades for each student.

Carefully review and **set the dates.** **"Students can review from"** should be set to a date and time occuring after the Due Date for the original Turnitin assignment. When this date/time passes, students will be assigned their peer reviews and be able to access peer work in the Turnitin Assignment. **"Students can review until"** is essentially the due date for the PeerMark assignment. **"Peer feedback available from"** is when students will see their peer's comments. **NOTE:** If you hope for students to use peer feedback to make revisions before submitting a final draft, be sure to make sure they have enough time to review feedback before their final draft is due. The final draft assignment will need to be set up as an additional Turnitin Assignment or as a Moodle Assignment.

Click "Additional Settings"

Review each setting for your own preferences. Use the question marks for additional information. **TIPS -** Allowing students to review without a submission can make managing the assignment easier for you as an instructor. If you want the reviews to be **anonymous**, check the "No" option for "Students can view the names of their peers during review." ALSO instruct students not to include their name in the file name they are submitting or on the actual draft of the assignment itself.

**Distribution Settings -** If you use "Automatically distribute papers for review," Turnitin will randomly assign students work to review on the "Students can review from" date. However, **Turnitin does not guarantee** that students will get an equal number of assignments to review. Students reviewing their own paper can be a good learning activity. Particularly if you are adding specific review questions for students to use as they review - you can do this in the next step. Click **"Save & Continue"** after reviewing and setting all options. The PeerMark Assignment is now created.

**Click "PeerMark Questions"** to add questions that student will respond to when reviewing a peer's work. Guiding questions are a very helpful aid for students who likely do not have a lot of experience critiquing peers.

Click **"Add from Library"** to choose from a list of questions or choose **"Add Question"** to create your own question.

Click "Sample Library" As you **create question sets**, you can save them to the library and they will appear in the drop down list below "Sample Library."

Scroll and **select questions to add**. Note that some have a "minimum answer length" to prevent students from writing a too simplistic response. Instructors can change the answer length requirement. When reviewing individual student's peer work, you will see a progress score or "percent complete" for students. This is based on if they answer all of the questions you add in this section. NOTE: This completion score is for instructor information only, it does not transfer to the Moodle Gradebook or Moodle Completion Conditions.

You can also click to "Add Selected Questions" in the Question Library.

**Manual Distribution of Student Papers:** If you want to assign peer review partners or groups, click on the Distribution tab and the plus button to pair up students.

**Do not click** "Create PeerMark Assignment" unless you want to add an additional PeerMark Assignment to this Turnitin Assignment which can get confusing. Your PeerMark Assignment was already completed when you clicked Save and Continue after selecting all of the PeerMark Setup questions.
