Joining Navigators Chapter 357 on Band

Note - If you're an experiment and figure out instead of a read the tutorial type of person, here are the essentials: - Please read step 7 for the required name format for your group profile. - Please read step 16 for the required info to include in your bio for your group profile. - Please read the "RSVP to Events" section as this describes how we utilize this feature to meet the needs of our specific group. - Please be aware that all emails and text notifications will be sent through Band (once migration to Band is complete) and it is your responsibility to keep your email and cell number up to date if you wish to receive these.

Joining Band

Open the email inviting you to join Chapter 357 on Band and click on the link provided.

Click "Join the group now"

If you already have a Band account sign in. If you are new to Band, click "Sign Up." You will need to sign in or create an account for yourself, the TAG, not your child. Please use your own name and birthday. Band limits functionality for users under 13 years of age.

Today we'll show signing up using an email, but you can choose to join using mobile, Facebook or Google if preferred.

Enter your email address and choose a password.

Enter your name as you would like it displayed on your profile and your birth date. Please list your name with your first name being how you want to be addressed at chapter events and your full last name or the initial for you last name. If you want to include your legal first name as well, please put it in parenthesis after your last name. You may also choose to include your pronouns. For example: Allison Gator likes to be called Alli and uses they/them pronouns. They could list their name in the following ways: \* Alli Gator \* Alli Gator (Allison) \*Alli G \*Alli Gator (they/them) \*Alli Gator (Allison)(they/them) If you are in other groups on Band where you use a different name, you will be able to have separate profiles for each group.

Click "OK"

Band will send you a confirmation email to verify your account.

Copy the verification code in your email.

Go back to the Band login and enter the verification code from your email.

Click "OK"

Click "Request to join"

Click "Join This Band"

An admin will need to approve your request to join. Please check back because the app does not send a notification when your join request is approved. We are able to approve join requests from our phones, so approval will usually be fairly quick. Once you have been approved you will see Navigators Chapter 357 when you log into Band.

Customize Your Settings

The first time you go to the group you will be prompted to enter info in your bio. We have set this to ask for the names of the other members in your household. Please also include ages for children or "T" to indicate TAG (trusted adult guardian) for adult members.

Enter the names of your household members and click "OK"

Now you can customize your settings. Click "Band Settings"

Click "Settings"

You can choose whether or not to show your birthday. It won't display the year, just the month and day so we can all wish you happy birthday!

If you want to receive text alerts your phone number will need to be set to visible to "Admins & Co-Admins"

Click "Save"

Click "Band Settings" to return to the settings screen.

Click "Change" next to "Notification Settings" to choose what notifications you wish to receive.

You can choose to receive notifications for comments on all posts, just posts you have participated in, just your own posts or only when you are tagged. Then click "OK"

Click "Change" next to "Email Notifications" to choose when you would like to be notified via email.

Choose your preferred options for email notifications.

Click "Save"

RSVP to Events

Next we will check out the calendar and see how to RSVP for events. Click "Events"

The top of the screen will have a calendar view. Under the calendar there is also a list view of the events for that month. Click on the event you would like to RSVP to.

Click the checkbox for your RSVP option.

Let us know who else from your household will be attending by clicking "Add guest members"

Choose your RSVP option for the guest members and click "OK"

Click the "Enter name" field and enter the name of your household member you would like to RSVP for.

Click "Add" and then select the household member you would like to RSVP for in the list below. You can add multiple household members and RSVP for them all in one step.

Click "OK(1)"

If you are using Band in a browser there is not an easy way to see a list of everything you have RSVPed to. If you're not sure if you RSVPed to an event you need to click on each event to check one at a time. One way to keep track more easily is to save events to your personal calendar when you RSVP. To do this Click "Save Event" If you are using the app when you click on the calendar tab there will be a red dot on the days that have an event scheduled. If you have RSVPed to the event "Join" then the date will be highlighted in a white circle.

Choose what type of calendar you want to add the event too and you will be taken to your calendar to save the event.

[[Prior to the beginning of each season, a survey will be sent for members to let us know which events they would like to enroll for seasonally. Members will receive a request to pay through Band for seasonal registrations. Members who choose to register for events à la carte will receive a request to pay through Band after the RSVP window for each event.]]

Posts and Chats

Band includes a board for posts as well as chats very similar to how Facebook functions. Click "Post"

The available group chats will be listed on the right hand side of the screen.

Click on a chat to join the conversation. There is a general chat named "Navigators Chapter 357." There is also a Monday Meeting Chat, Park Explorers and Navigators in Nature Chat, Field Trip Chat and Special Events Chat. Those will be used to send messages the day of an event if needed and can be used to contact others at the events if you need to let us know you're running late or need directions. Additionally there is a chat named "Day of Updates Only." This will be used to send out urgent day of updates. Please reply in the relevant chat group. If you don't want a lot of chat notifications, joining this chat will allow you to get notifications just for time sensitive messages. There is also a chat named "Impromptu Informal Meetups." This is a way to invite fellow Navigators on spontaneous adventures. Heading off to a playground and up for company? You can send message in this chat. (Meetups facilitated through this chat are not considered Navigators Chapter 357 events, and thus are not covered by our group insurance.)

To go to the feed click "Post"

Creating a post works very similar to Facebook posts. When making a post you will be prompted to select a label. This will make it easier to organize posts.

Choose the best label for your post.

Click "Post"
