Creating your profile in the KATANA Safety App

Start by opening the KATANA Safety app on your device.

Select "Join".

Sign up using your ***company issued email address*** and toggle on the "I'm 13 years or older" switch. If you choose, you can also toggle on the "Remember me" switch.

After the email address field is filled out, choose sign up and the password field will appear. Create a strong password that contains special characters and numbers.

If the wrong email is used, you will get the error message below. If this occurs, close or "kill the app" completely, re-open it and use the correct email.

After successfully signing up, you will receive this message notifying you to verify your email:

Leave the app, and navigate to your email inbox on your phone, or open your email on your computer. (This may work better from your phone).

Click the link shown in the email to verify your email.

This message indicates that you have successfully verified your email.

After you verify your email, return to the KATANA Safety app to complete registration.

You will be dropped into the "Welcome to KATANA Safety" tutorial. Read through each slide for information about KATANA Safety. To navigate through the tutorial, swipe left.

Click on "Give Permission" for both prompts. Permissions are a crucial part of your account being in a ready state at all times. The Location services allow users to have access to help during times of need. Without location services set to "always allow" we cannot guarantee that dispatch will respond to the user's correct location. Giving notification permissions allows the user to communicate with our response center. Without notifications, the user may not be aware that they have triggered an alert and will not have a visual on communication from our response center.

KATANA Safety is neither a tracking service nor is your organization able to see the location of a user except during the time of an active alarm. Please see the below privacy pledge for more information.

The next step is to fill out your profile information. Ensure that the terms and conditions switch is toggled on and press the save button.

Important: Your 4-digit year of birth is the only way for a user to cancel an active alert (Ex. 1980). Your address is an extra resource for dispatch. With this information, emergency services have more options in the event you are not present at the alert location. Car details are necessary, as without them, emergency services will not be able to assist with an emergency situation which is mobile.

The Siri control manager allows users to make KATANA a hands-free device. This option allows users to give commands to Siri to activate an alert. If this is set up, please test to ensure that it is functioning properly.

Enter the security code that was texted to you.

If you did not receive a code click on the "Resend" button.

Connecting a device (skip if you do not have a device)

If you are connecting a FOB, please wake up your FOB first by pressing the center button until it flashes blue. The FOB can take up to 120 seconds before it is fully ready for pairing. If you are connecting a mini, please pull down on the red tab until it begins to chirp. Once it has begun chirping, push the red tab back in place to stop the chirping.

Select "Pair."

Click the plus button.

Select KATANA Mini or Key Fob (depending on the device type you have)

Important: There is a Bluetooth ID provided with the device (On the back of the device and on the device packaging), be sure to pair to the device that matches this ID. It is recommended to write this down or to snap a picture of the ID.

Allow access to Bluetooth. Your KATANA Safety device works with your phone through Bluetooth. Select the "Start Pairing" option and pair to your device.

Complete your Circle of Safety

You are required to have at least one member in your circle of safety. Choose "Add contact" and refer to the steps provided below.

The KATANA Safety Circle is a list of contacts that will be notified in the event that emergency services are dispatched for an alert. **Notice: Your leadership team may have a specific group of contacts that you must include in your circle.**

Choose from either of the options below, see next step.

Fill out your circle member's information and click on "save".

Allow access to your contacts.

When triggering alerts, the user will receive text messages and phone calls from the response center. With access to contacts, your phone will create a contact card titled "Response Center" which allows the user to know who is trying to get in touch with them.

You should now be on your home screen in the app, remember that your home screen looks like a map and has alert triggers available to you. You will be prompted to test your first alert. See next step.

It is important that you test an alert from the device that was paired. To trigger a silent alert, from your device, locate the 2 buttons on each side of your KATANA Safety device. You can hold both buttons simultaneously for a few seconds, or click both at the same time 3 times to trigger a silent alert. If you have a fob, squeeze both sides until the device blinks blue. [Click here for a brief video tutorial on how to activate a silent alert from your device](https://vimeo.com/900219149/fe56d5cd4c)

Once the alert is triggered, you will receive a text from the response center, and then a phone call. Important: To cancel your alert, click on the "I'm OK" button and type in your cancel pin. You may also answer the phone call and give them your pin verbally. The only way a user will be able to cancel an alert is by providing their safety pin. If the user does not answer the text, phone call, or cancel within the app, the dispatch process will begin. [Tutorial: How to cancel an alarm](https://vimeo.com/899927566/89d0bb4150)

You should now be back on the home screen of the app. You can trigger alerts within the app using the buttons on the bottom of the screen. Panic and silent work the same way as they do on the device. “Check in” is used to send your current location to your circle of safety contact. **This is not a required alert, use as directed by your organization.** "Walk with me" is used for short distance travel. This will put you on the phone with a response center agent during times of discomfort. **Available with some plans.**

**Final check/Error Messages:**

The green battery icon in the top right corner of your home screen indicates that your device is paired. You can always click on it to view the status of your device.
