Manage Data Settings in OpenAI's ChatGPT

Understanding how OpenAI uses data in ChatGPT is essential if you are sharing personal data with it - either about yourself or others. If you are using ChatGPT Team or Enterprise, you have higher privacy settings by default and DO NOT need to make any further changes. But if you using the FREE or PLUS accounts, then follow these steps to ensure that data is not used to improve ChatGPT.

Whatever account you are using, and even after making these changes it is still best practise to anonymise data where possible, avoid sensitive or PII data and inform clients /customers where you use AI in your GDPR policy.

Select "Data controls" on the left

Look for "Improve the model for everyone" which by default will be "On"

Toggle the setting to "Off" And then click "Done"

Once saved, you'll see "Improve the model for everyone" is set to "Off"
