Navigate to [https://app.masteryconnect.com/home](https://app.masteryconnect.com/home)

Click "Items"

Select your name's item bank.

Click "Passages"

Click "Add Passage"

Name your passage.

Click this dropdown to select the grade level band of the passage.

Type in or copy/paste the text of your passage in the text box and click save.

Click "Items"

Click "Add Item"

Click this text field and name your item (this isn't the question, this is just the name of the item)

Click this dropdown and select "Essay with Rich Text."

Click this dropdown. and select Language Arts.

Click this dropdown and select the Grade Level

Click this dropdown to select the writing standard.

Click "CONTINUE"

Click "Add Feature"

Click "Passage"

Click the passage you just added to your bank.

Click "ADD PASSAGE"

Click here to type in the writing prompt.

To the right, you will see what the item will look like for your students.

Click the text box under Rubric to type in the expectations for your students.

Click "Rubric Total Points" text box to type in the total amount of points the student can earn.

Click "PUBLISH"

To make this essay question an assessment, click "Assessments"

Click "Add Assessment"

Name the assessment

Select your Alignment Source

Choose Item for your Source

Click the "Item Bank" field.

Select YOUR bank (The one you added the passage to)

Find your essay item. The passage will already be attached to it because you linked it when you created the item.
