MasteryConnect: Creating your own items within an assessment

Navigate to your MasteryConnect login.

Click "Assessments"

Click "Add Assessment"

Title assessment as normal

Select your Alignment Source

Click "Next"

Click "Author New Item"
Creating a Multiple Choice Item

Name the item. This can be the actual question or the standard being assessed.

Click the "Question Type *" field.

For this tutorial, we are going to click "Multiple Choice Question"

Click the "Destination Bank \*" field to determine where you want your item to live.

Select the standard this item assesses

Click "Author"

Compose your question in the large text box.

Type the answer options below.

Select the correct answer.

If you have put a passage into MasteryConnect, you can click "Passage" to find it and associate it with your item.

Select the passage.

Click "Add"

If it is a math assessment and the item allows students to utilize a calculator or tool, click through those items to activate them.

Click "Save Draft" to finish creating your item.

Creating a Matching Item

Repeat the steps as before

Click "Match List"

After selecting the standard being assessed, click "Author"

Type your question or instructions in the large text box.

Type "Put student instructions here."

Type your answer options to match below.

Click and drag the correct choices to match with their corresponding answer choice.

To award partial credit, click More Options

Click this dropdown and select Partial Match Per Response. This will make the question's point value equal however many correct answers there are. For this particular item, there are 3 answers; therefore 3 points will be awarded. If the student gets 2/3 correct, then they will be awarded 2 points.

Click "Save Draft"

Notice this question is now worth "3 points" because of the Partial Match scoring I selected.

Click "Create Assessment"
