NCE Descriptions and HTML Web Pages

Take a look at how descriptions are displayed with HTML web pages, and how that will change in the New Content Experience.

THIS ONLY IMPACTS WEBPAGES WITH DESCRIPTIONS.

How HTML pages are displayed in the Classic Content Experience. You can see that there is a small description area that states "This is in the description area". This is used to let users know what the webpage will entail.

Because this only impacts HTML pages, simply look for this icon and the word Web Page under the title.

When a user clicks on the HTML page link, they are directed to a completely new page where they can see that content.

This is the view of the HTML web page from New Content Experience. There is no need for a description to be displayed because the content shows up right within the same window.

You may be asking, how do I fix my descriptions on web pages if I'm impacted. Well, lucky for you it's a very quick process. All you need to know how to do is copy and paste!

When a student clicks on the link the next screen is what they see.

There is nothing to display, because all of your instruction is in the description. The learner would have to scroll down to see it.

All you need to do is click on your description to allow yourself to make an edit.

Press CTRL + A or select all the text in whatever way works best for you.

Press CTRL + C or right-click copy to make a copy of the highlighted text.

Scroll up and click "Edit HTML"

Click in the HTML box.

Press CTRL + V or right-click and paste your selection into the box.

Click "Save and Close"

Let's see what that looks like in the New Brightspace Content update.

Toggle on the Brightspace update.

Click "Turn it on"

And there it is. Your description is now viewable.

Descriptions will still be visible and editable for everything else within Brightspace under New Content Experience. If you have a file and would like to add a description, you can still do that, **this only impacts HTML pages.**
