Rice Library Homepage

The David L. Rice Library provides an extensive range of online resources for USI students. To begin exploring these resources, navigate to <https://www.usi.edu/library>.

On the Rice Library homepage, you can find information about booking a library study room, the library's hours, available databases, and more.

Use the drop-down menu in the top right corner of the homepage to access the Library's contact information.

Have a question for our librarians? When a librarian is available online, a chat box will appear in the bottom right corner of the Rice Library homepage. You can either select "Chat Now" or "No Thanks." You can click the red chat box to close and re-open the dialogue.

Rice Library Services

To learn more about the services available to you through the Rice Library, scroll down on the library homepage and click the blue bar titled "SERVICES."

Here, you will see a list of services available to all USI students. Students have the ability to meet with a librarian to ask questions and discuss research needs. To schedule a meeting with a librarian, click "Ask a Librarian."

On this page, you can schedule a meeting with one of our librarians for a research services consultation or scholarly communication online consultation. Students have the option of requesting an in-person or virtual meeting.

If the materials you need are not available at the Rice Library, you still may be able to borrow them through an interlibrary loan. To learn more about this process, click "Interlibrary Loan."

fUSIon and Other Databases

Many of your courses may require you to research scholarly sources in an online database. To begin exploring the Rice Library's databases, navigate back to the library homepage at<https://www.usi.edu/library>. Here, you can access databases by clicking on the links, using the Advanced Search option, or searching directly in the box.

Click "Advanced search."

You may be prompted to log in with your USI credentials at this step.

You can enter your search terms into the boxes and select OK to start researching. This database also allows you to save your searches and put them into project folders in your dashboard (accessible on the left-hand panel).

Citation Help

If you need help in the research process, click the "HELP" drop-down menu on the library homepage.

You will now see links to different help services, including "Ask Us," "Citing Sources," and "Research Guides." To learn more about citing your sources from the Rice Library, click "Citing Sources."

You will now see a comprehensive collection of citation resources, which provides helpful information on many different citation styles, such as APA and MLA.
