What is the difference between a GRSO and a USSO?
A GRSO is a General Registered Student Organization. All organizations not designated as USSOs will be designated GRSOs. GRSOs are independent organizations with no legal affiliation to the University. A GRSO’s mission and purpose are established solely through student leadership and membership. While encouraged, GRSOs are no longer required to have an advisor.
A USSO (University Sponsored Student Organization) is an RSO that is directly affiliated with a University unit. USSO status will be assigned by USF as outlined in the policy. The Department or unit leadership must approve this affiliation. USSOs are required to have a University employee as an advisor with USSO advising duties in their job description. Departments or Units may require an RSO to be USSO in order to utilize space, tax-exempt status, insurance, and other resources.
