Start at the CCC Marketplace: <https://marketplace.copyright.com/rs-ui-web/mp>

Click the "DOI, Title, ISSN, Author…" field.

Type or paste a DOI, title, author, or something else that will identify the published source as uniquely as possible.

Click search.

Identify the correct source, and click "Request Permission >>"

If necessary, select between source choices and click "GO"

When prompted for the type of use, click "Publications"

Click "Make a selection" to choose what type of requestor you are

Click "Author, student, or other individual"

Click "Next"

Click "Make a selection" to choose your type of use

Click "Republish in a thesis/dissertation"

Choose the type of portion (e.g., an image, chart, etc.)

Enter a number in the "Number of Images / Photos / Illustrations" field.

Choose the format of YOUR use; this will be Electronic for most dissertations, unless you will be setting a permanent embargo and depositing in print only.

Choose "Academic institution" as who will republish the content

Choose the duration of use. A good choice is usually "Life of current edition"

Choose lifetime unit quantity. A good choice is often "Up to 499"

Choose the rights requested. A good choice is often "Main product," meaning just this dissertation for now.

Choose "Worldwide" for the distribution

Click "Original language of publication" for translation

Click "No" to indicate that you are not making this request for the purpose of creating an accessible publication for the disabled community

Indicate whether you are requesting minor editing privileges (to make small changes to the image).

Click "No" to indicate that your use is not an incidental promotional use

Select "USD" as the relevant currency (U.S. Dollars)

Enter your dissertation title and faculty advisor's name in the fields provided. Enter "Sam Houston State University" as the institution name, and select the date you expect to submit your dissertation.

If you have already created an account with CCC Marketplace, enter your credentials and login. Otherwise, click the link to register, and create your new account.

After you are logged in, you should be asked for additional details for the license. Enter your own full name in the "The Requesting Person / Organization to Appear on the License" field, so that the license will clearly be granting permission to you.

Enter the number/title or other identifier of the relevant image, chart, etc. that you will use in the "Title, Description or Numeric Reference of the Portion(s)" field.

Note that the licensing fee is shown at the bottom; the example here shows "PRICEL 0.00 USD"

If you need to request several licenses, click "Add to Cart," or just click Checkout.

If needed, repeat this process to locate other images, and then click on your cart at the upper right

Click Checkout when you are ready to complete the process and download all your licenses, which should be attached to your thesis or dissertation in an appendix
