Use the drop down menu to search for your school. Be cognizant of institutions that may have multiple campuses (ex. University of Michigan and U of M-Flint). Some schools may be abbreviated or elongated so be careful to look for names that may not be as expected. (Ex. Mott Community College is listed under "Charles Stewart Mott CC" which abbreviates "CC" and includes the first name).

Once you have found your school, click that option and begin your searches.

In the "Search for a class" field, you can search by the course at your current school or by the GVSU equivalency. If you are planning a future transfer, searching by the GVSU equivalency will allow you to see all potential options that would satisfy the requirement. If you have already taken the classes, it can be less confusing to search by the course you have taken as it filters only those classes. When typing, you must put a space between the course designator and the number. Do NOT put a space after the course number, you will receive no results in your search.

Using the first course on the guide, this search is for "BIO 120". At this school, there are several courses and course pairings that would satisfy this requirement and many options that include BIO 120 transfer credit. The first option on the list would require a student to take BOTH BI 103 and BI 104 and comes in to GVSU as two BIO courses (120 and 121). For most required classes, there are one to one equivalencies and no need to take multiple classes. Scroll through all options and look for an equivalency that is just one class on both sides of the search. \*\*This first course pairing also shows another important piece of information regarding equivalency effective date. The first option is only equivalent if the courses were taken prior to Fall 2005 which means if the classes are taken currently, the equivalency would be different. For the current equivalency, look for "Active Equivalency" and the most recent effective date.

For example, this school offers BI 151, which is an equivalent class to BIO 120 at GVSU by itself. Unless this course is not offered when a student needs it, this would be the recommended course to take.

When you are done with one class lookup, you may use the same page and search bar to move on to the next. Do this for each class. This equivalency guide is up to date with all previously audited transfer coursework. If you do a search for an equivalency and there are no results or the school you attended has limited courses in the equivalency guide, you may need your classes audited. Obtain a syllabus of record from your previous institution and send it to the GVSU records office [audit@gvsu.edu](mailto:audit@gvsu.edu) to be reviewed. This process can take up to a few weeks. You will be emailed a determination and the course will be added to the equivalency guide.
