Troubleshooting render issues in Posit Cloud

When you render a notebook in RStudio, it will start from a "clean slate" and run all code cells sequentially from start to finish. If the notebook won't render, you can mimic the process in order to identify the issue(s) preventing code cells from running properly from start to finish.

Open the project you wish to render

Clear your environment by clicking the broom icon.

Click "Yes"

Click "Run"

Click "Restart R and Clear Output"

Click "Run"

Click "Run All". This will attempt to run the code cells from start to finish.

If you see an error, scroll through the notebook until you find the first code cell with an error message at the bottom. The line that failed will be highlighted in red.

In this case, the problem is that there is no object called "age" in the environment. I add a line to fix the issue by extracting the age variable and naming it accordingly. After adding a fix, try running the cell that failed before to see if it runs now.

You may need to do some detective work to sort out the issue. The error message should provide a hint. Look for portions of the message related to your notebook (names of datasets, variables, functions, etc.) to try to identify the culprit. Usually, it's a simple issue like a typo or a missing variable or not loading a dataset.

If it worked, continue by clicking "Run".

Then click "Restart R and Run All Chunks". This will attempt to run all code cells in order again.

Repeat steps 8-11 until all cells run without error.

Click "Render" (or the render icon).
