Turnitin Draft Coach

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to use Turnitin Draft Coach, a tool that helps students improve their writing by providing feedback on similarity, citations, and grammar. Accessing the Turnitin Side Panel

Navigate to [word.office.com](https://www.microsoft365.com/launch/word?auth=2)

Open a new blank document or select a document you've already created.

Select the "Turnitin" tab.

Click "Draft Coach".

Click "Get Feedback Now"

Similarity Check

Click "Go to Similarity"

Click "Run Similarity Check"

You will be prompted to "Confirm" that you'd like to run your similarity check. Notice that Draft Coach tells you how many more times you can run the similarity check on this document.

Draft Coach will give you a percentage of overall similarity. This tells you what percentage of your work is similar to work found online and/or submitted to other schools using Turnitin for assignment submissions.

You may click "Run New Similarity Check" once you're ready to re-run the check. This would be recommended after making substantial changes since running the first check.

Click on the source(s) to see detailed summary of what is similar.

You may choose to click "View Full Report" for a more in-depth summary. This will open the report in a new browser tab.

Citations Check

Let's look at the Citations feature. Click the "Citations" tab in the Draft Coach side panel.

Click "Run Citations Check"

Citations Report will show any issues with citations. You may run unlimited citation checks.

Grammar Check

Click the "Grammar" tab in the Draft Coach side panel to access the grammar and spelling features.

Click "Run Grammar Check"

Additional Similarity Checks

If you run out of Similarity Checks for a document, there is a workaround. You may copy all of the text from your document. Open a new blank document from [word.office.com](http://word.office.com). Paste your text in the new document.

You will need to re-open Draft Coach. It may take a few seconds to show the Turnitin option. Click "Turnitin"

Click "Draft Coach"

Click "Go to Similarity"

Click "Run Similarity Check"

Click "Confirm"
