Update a Vacant Position Using Position Control Request

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for updating an existing, vacant position using Position Control Request within UCPath.

Navigate to UCPath [https://ucpath.universityofcalifornia.edu](https://ucpath.universityofcalifornia.edu/home)

On the **Workforce Administration** homepage, click the **Position Management** tile.

On the left navigation pane, select **Position Control Request**.

Add/Update Position Request

Select the **Update Vacant Position** option.

Click the **Next** button.

Enter the date the position update becomes effective or select the appropriate date from the calendar. **NOTE:** The **Effective Date** field defaults to the current date.

Review the *Add/Update Position Info* page prior to entering the update to ensure there is not an existing, future-dated change. Enter the **Position Number**.

Click the **Search** button.

Click the **Select** button.

An error message displays if a date with an existing effective-dated update or the position creation date is chosen. Position Data does not support effective sequencing; for updates to an existing effective-dated row, create a case with UCPath Center to request a Position Data Update (i.e., a correction).

Enter Position Update

Enter or select the appropriate update **Reason Code**. The example shown is a job code reclassification.

If multiple updates are required, choose the code that most closely aligns to the action. For example, if entering a Job Code reclassification that updates Job Code, Location, and Reports To fields, choose the Reason Code for Job Code reclassification.

Make the necessary updates. In this example, the Job Code has been updated.

If applicable, changes to Job Code require review and potential update to the Salary Admin Plan, Grade, and Employee Relations Code.

Click the **Specific Information** tab.

Make any necessary updates.

Click the **UC Position Data** tab.

Make any necessary updates.

Submit Transaction

Click the **Supporting Documents** tab.

If documentation is available, click the **Add Attachment** button to attach a supporting document.

If needed: - Click the **Save for Later** button to return to the transaction later. This will save your data entry and generate a Transaction ID. - Click the **Cancel** button to cancel the transaction.

Click the **Save and Submit** button to initiate the UCPath approval process.

Retain the **Transaction ID** for your records.

The approval workflow appears at the bottom of the transaction.
