AristotleK12 Classroom Management Tools

This guide provides information how to use the following AristotleK12 tools: Open Tabs, Heads Up, Send a Message, Test Mode, Apply Outline (a set of "rules" or standards for specific situations. They can be used with Select Students OR the Entire Class.

Navigate to <https://warrenco.aristotleinsight.com/Educator/Dashboard> Choose the class you want to monitor. Click **"Open Classroom."**

Don't forget, in order to do anything, you have to click **"Start Session."** Choose your desired length of time. You can skip this step if you define the class times in the course settings. (This is a good strategy for teachers with multiple classes.)

**Tip!** When "Multi Select: Off" is clicked, the tools can be used with ONLY SOME of the class.

To use a tool listed to the right on the Aristotle Toolbar with **ONLY SOME** of the class, click **"Multi-Select: Off."** Once muti select is **"off"** the font will turn red. Proceed with the tool of your choice by selecting it and following the steps listed in Slides 5-17. Next click the student screen who you want to have affected by the tool.

**Tip!** When **"Multi Select: On"** is selected, the tool will be pushes to **ALL** students. To do this, click **"Unselect All Students"** and the "Multi Select" font turns from red to black.

Click **"Open Tab"** to automatically push a URL to students.

Type or paste the URL into the field labeled **"https:://example.com."** When finished, click **"Open Tab."**

Click **"Heads Up"** to freeze student screens so you have students' undivided attention.

Click the red **"End Heads Up"** to allow students to exit the frozen screen.

Click **"Send a Message"** to give one-way teacher to student communication. Students can't answer back using this tool. They may only read and then close the message.

Click the **"Message"** field to super impose text onto the frozen heads up screen. During the time that it's frozen, the font will be red (until you re-click it.) Optional: - Click the dropdown icon to select a new color. - Click **"Heads Up"** to trigger the tool.

Click **"Test Mode"** to lock down the internet during testing. "Testing mode" allows you to lock the students to a single browser tab. They're not allowed to open additional tabs until you close testing mode. The window that the students are in cannot be closed and will only close once you click **"End Testing"** on the top of the dashboard. You're able to configure other settings below that will change how your test acts.

Click into the **"Test URL"** field and type or paste the test URL.

Click the arrow associated with **"Window Mode"** & choose from: - **"Kiosk"** - **"Browser"** Most teachers who use **"Test Mode"** prefer **"Kiosk"** for maximum security.

Click the arrow associated with **"Student Finish Close Action"** & choose from: - **"Do Nothing"** - **"Blank Screen"** - **"Reopen Test"** This is a teacher preference choice, but regardless, students will be generally "stuck" until the testing session is released.

Click the arrow associated with **"Close Open Tabs"** & choose from: - **"Close"** - **"Don't Close"** Most teachers who use **"Test Mode"** prefer **"Close"** for maximum security.

**Tip!** As a refresher, an "Outline" is set of standards set by the teacher to control filtering. Outlines allow teachers to automatically do things like: - Push a URL to students every time the outline is deployed - Block all sites but the ones they allow, - Allow only sites they stipulate, - Block all apps but the ones they allow, & - Allow only apps they stipulate.

If you already have an **"Outline"** created, let's call it "Testing Outline," you can enable it to give lockdown exceptions like: - Scientific Calculator URL - Periodic Table of Elements URL - Measurement Conversion Charts - A specific app of your choice You can also create specific testing outline without leaving **"Test Mode."**

You can also create specific testing outline without leaving" **Test Mode."** - Click the green font that says **"Create Outline."**

Before you click **"Start Test,"** it's best to look over your choices to make sure it's what you want.

Outside of **"Test Mode,"** you can create & tweak outlines by clicking **"Apply Outline."** - When you click it, you will see all of your previously created Outlines and can also **"Create \[a New\] Outline."** (See Slide 16.)
