How to issue a connection in Navigate

If you are unable to login you may not have access to student records or might not have an active Navigate account. - Email [navigate@iastate.edu](mailto:navigate@iastate.edu) if you need support

Click "Issue a Connection" in the right-side actions menu on the home page

Click the "Student" field

Lookup the student by typing one of the following: - Student NetID (Email address) - Student University ID Number Then click on the student's name.

Click "Please select a reason"

Select the reason that corresponds with the student's challenge/concern

Don't see a related reason? Contact the Office of Student Assistance for support. [Studentassistance@iastate.edu](mailto:Studentassistance@iastate.edu) or call 515-294-1020.

Is this connection associated with a specific class? Click this dropdown and select the class. \ \ **This step is especially important if submitting a connection for a student not attending or not engaging/completing assignments.** The class you select will be merged into the email that is delivered to the student.

Click the "Additional Comments" field and provide as much detail as possible regarding the student's challenge/concern. Providing detailed comments will help staff best support the student. Failure to include detailed comment will result in delayed support for the student and requests for additional context/information from you.

Click "Submit".

What happens next?

The student will receive an email inviting them to connect with the appropriate resource. This email will be delivered to the student's ISU email address within 24 hours of issuing the connection.

A Navigate case is opened and assigned to appropriate staff for follow-up/engagement. This case will remain open until resolution is reached. Comments and notes will be added as staff interact with the student.

Staff will outreach to the student via text message, phone call, or email to support them in getting connected to appropriate resources.

You will receive an email when resolution is reached and the case is closed. Timeframe for case resolution varies and depends on complexity of the case and responsiveness of the student.
