Sign in to **AWS Management Console** as an **IAM User** **Pre-requisite** - Ensure you have selected the AWS region closest to your location\ For this guide, we will be using us-east-2 (Ohio) as a preferred choice

Type **EC2** in the search bar and click on **EC2** to view the EC2 Dashboard

On the EC2 dashboard click on **Instances** from the left bar to view the EC2 instances

On the top right corner click on the **Launch instances** dropdown button and click on the option **Launch instance from template**

**Choose a launch template** wizard will open, select the option **MyEc2LaunchTemplate**

Scroll to the **Resource tags** section and type **Microservice A** in the Value

Scroll to the **User data** section and type the bash script

On the right side click on the **Launch instance** button

Successfully initiated launch of instance

On the EC2 dashboard, click on the **Target Groups** from the left bar

**What are target groups in EC2?** In Amazon EC2, target groups are a feature of Elastic Load Balancing (ELB) that help route incoming traffic to instances or containers registered with the target group.

**Target groups** wizard will open, on the right side click on the **Create target group** button

Scroll to the **Target group name** section and type "**microservice-a-target-group**" in the text input field

Scroll the page and click on the **Next** button

**Register targets** wizard will open, select the Name **Microservice A**

Scroll the page and click on the **Create target group** button

Successfully created the target group: **microservice-a-target-group**

On the **microservice-a-target-group page,** scroll to the **Registered targets** section and click on the **Register targets** button on the right side

**Register targets** wizard will open, scroll to the **Available instances** section and select the instance **Microservice A**

Scroll and click on the **Include as pending below** button

Scroll the page and click on the **Register pending targets** button

Congratulations on successfully registering the pending targets of the **Microservice** instance!

On the left bar click on the **Load Balancers**

**Load balancers** wizard will open, select the Name **my-application-load-balancer**

Scroll to thepage and click on the **Listeners and rules** tab, then select **HTTP:80**

On the right side click on the **Manage rules** dropdown button and select the option **Add rule**

**Add rule** wizard will open, type "**Microservice-rule"** in the **Name** text input field and click on the **Next** button

Click on the **Add condition** button

**Add condition** wizard will open, select the option **Path** from the dropdown

type "**/a/\***" in the text input field for **Path** and click on the **Confirm** button

Click on the **Next** button

**Define rule actions** wizard will open, select the option **Forward to target groups** and select the option **microservice-a-traget-group** from the dropdown

Click on the **Next** buton

**Set rule priority** wizard will open, you can give the **Priority** as "**100**" in the text input field

Scroll the page and click on the **Next** button

**Review** wizard will open, review the settings and click on the **Create** button

Successfully created rule "**Microservice-rule**" on listener HTTP:80
