Using the Proxi Maps Chrome Extension - Map My Blog

Download the Proxi Chrome Extension

Ensure that you are in a Google Chrome browser. Navigate to the Google Chrome store (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions). Search for "Proxi". Select the Proxi Chrome Extension.

Click "Add To Chrome".

Look for the puzzle piece on the top right side of your chrome application. Click it and then click the "pin" button next to the Proxi Extension.

Log into Proxi

If you are not already logged into Proxi, click the Proxi Icon that is now pinned to your Toolbar. You will see a pop-up prompting you to log in to Proxi.

If you are having trouble logging in to the extension, navigate to [map.proxi.co](http://map.proxi.co) and try to log in there. This login will propagate to the extension. If the problem persists reach out to [help@proxi.co](mailto:help@proxi.co).

Once you are logged in, we are ready to start mapping!

Add Places to Your Map by Highlighting Information on the Page

If you haven't made the Proxi Map that you plan to add points to yet, navigate to [Proxi.Co](http://Proxi.Co) and generate it. Start Your Search! In this example, we're looking for Hikes in Seattle to add to a Proxi Map. After doing some googling, we found this page.

Option 1: Auto-Map Places to New Map

Navigate to the URL you'd like to use to map places. Highlight the text you'd like to map.

Click the Proxi map extension and then 'Auto-Map Places with MapsGPT'. Your highlighted text will appear in the text box. Click 'Generate Places'.

MapsGPT will pull out the places from the text. Select the ones you want to keep.

Click "Add to New Map"

Here you can rename your map from the automatically generated name. This name will appear as a title at the top of your map. Next, you will confirm your map center. This is important for two reasons. First, this will help us ensure the points we put on your map are the right ones. Secondly, it will serve as the visual center of your map. Click "Next".

We have categorized each place that we have scanned. Please review the automatic categorizations and recategorize as you wish by clicking the drop down and making a new selection. Click "Create Map and Add Points"

The points will now appear on a brand new Proxi map! Click on a point to get more detail, pulled from and attributed to the URL they came from.

Option 2: Auto-Map Places to an Existing Map

Navigate to the URL you'd like to generate a map from. Highlight the text you'd like MapsGPT to pull from. Select the Chrome Extension. The highlighted text should appear in the text box. Click "Generate Places"

Check the box next to each location you'd like to have on your map.

Click "Add to Existing Map"

Choose the map you'd like to add the points to.

The categories will match the ones you already have set up for that map. If you need to add a category, click 'New Category'.

Type the name of the new category and click 'Save'.

Select the appropriate category for each place created by MapsGPT.

Click "Add to My Proxi Map"

The points will now appear on your map. Data pulled from the URL will be attributed to that site.

Using Proxi's Auto-Address Detector to Add Points

You can copy and paste relevant content into the Title, URL, and Description, if you wish. Once you click "Add to Map" it will be posted to your map.

Tip! You can even search for places in Google and add them to the map using the auto-detector. If you click 'More Places' you'll see even more places to pin for later on your Proxi Map.
