Before You Begin a Proposal

Before creating or modifying curriculum:

  • Search CIM to confirm you are working with the correct course record.

  • Review the existing Course Outline of Record (COR) before proposing changes.

  • Review the course's Ecosystem, when applicable, to identify curriculum that may be affected by your proposal.

  • Use Save Changes if you need to leave the proposal and return to complete it later.

  • Select Start Workflow only when the proposal is complete and ready to enter the formal approval process.

Important: Saving a proposal does not submit it for approval. The proposal enters the approval process when Start Workflow is selected.

Searching, Viewing and Printing Course Records

Search for a Course

Use CIM's search tools to locate existing courses and proposals.

Courses can be searched using criteria such as:

  1. Course Code or Program Code
STAT C1000 will return STAT C1000

  1. Keyword
Physics will return any course with Physics in the title

  1. Keyword plus asterisk (Wildcard Search)
*physic* will return Biophysics, Physical Education, and anything else with physic in the title

  1. Workflow Step
ACCTG Chair will return all courses currently at the ACCTG Chair step in workflow

  1. Status
edited will return all courses being edited

How To Use the Search Function in CIM

View a Course Record

Select a course from the search results to open its curriculum record.

Depending on the status of the course, the record may display:

  • Current approved curriculum

  • Proposed curriculum changes

  • Red/green markup identifying proposed changes

  • Current workflow information

  • Curriculum relationships and impacts

  • Proposal history

If a proposal is currently in workflow, CIM will display its current location in the approval process.

Print a Course Proposal

To print or save a copy of a course proposal:

  1. Open the course record in CIM.

  2. Use your browser's Print function.

  3. Select your printer or choose Save as PDF, if available.

Keyboard shortcuts:

  • Windows: Ctrl + P

  • Mac: Command + P

Understanding Proposal Changes

When an existing course is being modified, CIM uses red/green markup to identify differences between the existing curriculum and the proposed curriculum.

  • Red indicates information being removed or replaced.

  • Green indicates new or proposed information.

This allows reviewers to quickly identify what is changing within the proposal.

Understanding Workflow

After Start Workflow is selected, the proposal enters the College's curriculum approval process.

CIM automatically routes the proposal through the required review and approval steps.

The current workflow step identifies where the proposal is currently located in the approval process.

Approving a proposal at one workflow step does not necessarily mean the curriculum is fully approved. Additional approvals may still be required.
