Click "W" for Westlaw.

Tip! This is only one way you can search for cases in Westlaw. You can use some of the other features linked in the screen capture depending on the type of case you are researching. Using the "Cases" link is the most direct.

Click "Close Jurisdiction Window" you can select state or federal district courts to search or search them all and leave this option alone.

Click the "Search:" field and enter the search term "stalking."

Use the filters on the left to narrow your search. In this example, we will look at Federal and criminal stalking cases. Click the "Criminal" field.

Scroll until you see the case you are searching for or if you do not have a specific case, you can browse the results list. In this example, I clicked on "United States v. Baugh"

The link will take you to the content the database has related to the case you are looking at. Keep in mind that CSU Libraries has a limited subscription package with the database so there is a chance that some features are unavailable. Keep scrolling to see what is listed for this case.

Westlaw will often link the law that applies to a case. In this example, it will take us to the Federal statute that the defendant criminally violated. Click "18 U.S.C.A. §§ 2261A(1)" for the specific law.

Click "History (4)" for other documents related to the case. Also keep in mind, some of the documents may not be available.

Westlaw often provides links to references cited. Click "Citing References (4)" to access this feature.

Westlaw also links the cited caselaw in the court documents. Click "Table of Authorities" to access this feature.
