      Getting Started

How to get an NSH Microsoft Teams account

When your team, committee, or council sets you up with an NSH email account, you are automatically set up with a NSH Microsoft Teams account. The email address and password you use for your NSH email account will be the same ones you use to log into your NSH Teams account. If you haven't been set up with an NSH email account yet, please speak with a member of the team you joined so they can set you up.

      Choosing and updating your password

Your NSH email account is connected to your NSH Teams account, they both use the same password and email address. When you update your password on your NSH email account, it automatically updates your NSH Teams password.

Your password will expire every 90 days for security reasons. The NSH email system will ask you to choose a new password every 90 days.

You are responsible for all access associated with your password, so do not share it with anyone. If using a public computer (such as a library or hotel), make sure to uncheck the "Remember Me" or "Save Password" option when logging in, and make sure to log off and close the browser window when you're done.

      Install the Microsoft Teams App

Click the link below and follow the prompts to download and install the Microsoft Teams app on your computer, laptop, phone or tablet.

      • Windows/Apple desktop (computer, laptop)

      • Mobile device (tablet, phone)

      Set up your meeting space

      • Room: Try to find a quiet, private room to join your meetings from. Your options may be limited, so don't worry if you can't choose a different room.

      • Lighting: Good lighting helps people see you better on-screen. If possible, try to avoid having your camera face a window or bright light behind you. Instead, try to have the light coming from above or in front of you.

      • Camera: Most modern devices come with a camera built into the screen, these work well with Teams. Some built-in cameras have a privacy cover on them, make sure to open this cover when using your camera during a meeting. You also have the option of using an external camera that plugs into your computer, this lets you move the camera to a better angle if needed. Try to have your camera set up at eye-level, if possible.

      • Microphone: You can use your device's built-in microphone, or you can connect an external microphone (plug-in, Bluetooth, etc). Some headphones even have a built-in microphone.

      • Speakers/Headphones: You can use your device's built-in speakers, or you can connect external speakers or headphones (plug-in, Bluetooth, etc). Headphones reduce feedback/echoes, help keep your meeting conversations more private, and reduce noise for those around you.

      • Avoid Feedback: When using external or built-in speakers, audio from your computer/device can come out of the speakers and into the microphone causing harsh looping/echoing noises (“feedback”) that can be very distracting for everyone in the meeting. Avoid feedback by using headphones instead of speakers, and by keeping your microphone muted until you want to talk.

      • Run a test meeting: Once you're all set up, ask a member of your team to run a test meeting with you on Teams to make sure everything is working properly before your first "real" meeting.

      Help & Support

There may be times when you need help from the IT Service Desk (NSH's tech support team), such as forgetting your password or fixing an issue with your Teams account. To do this, the IT Service Desk will need to confirm your identity by asking you some pre-set questions that only you know the answer to (such as your favourite colour or the first car you drove). These are called "Challenge Questions" and they need to be given to the IT Service Desk ahead of time so they have them on file when you call them for tech support.

Please note: You only need to set up your challenge questions once. The IT Support Desk cannot help you unless you have already set up your challenge questions with them, so make sure you set up your Challenge Questions as soon as possible.

Here's how to set up your Challenge Questions.

      Set up your Challenge Questions

Who to contact for help & support

      1. First, speak with the contact person on your team to see if they can help.

      2. If you are still having issues, call the IT Service Desk at 1-866-224-2555. They will only be able to help you if you've already set up your Challenge Questions.

      3. If still having issues, email [email protected] and a member of the Quality team will reach out to help you.
