R3 Step-by-Step How-To Tutorials

Using a Rate vs Date template with oil, water and WOR, the future production of water can be calculated from oil fit curve and WOR fit curve.

If Engineer want to get digital data of forecast production in yearly, monthly, or daily, DCA Table has Production table which can be exported as an excel file with Historical data and forecasts.

R3 has production Scenarios which can be used to define different production schemes using different declines  or As of Dates. R3 allows users clear, copy or move the production schemes at the Study level or the Asset Level.

This example adds a phase instance to an Asset. A second instance of the oil phase is added.

The R3 standard export file has an oda extension. This is an example of how to import a Study in its entirety.

Before using Rate vs Date template for the future forecasts, need to make sure that the leaf assets have history production data of oil, gas, water, and so on, have the major phase option and an active scenario with correct Data Processing Method and ,As of Date.

This example creates a new query with the Query/Action tool that selects Asset that have the major phase of oil, runs the Primary Model and reports the Assets using the Sum BFIT Portrait report. This report does the summary of the selected Assets and a one line detail of the Assets and the total.

As a study(Project), there are some necessary data need to be entered by user. Otherwise the user will meet some errors during the models run. 

Set Dmin value of 0, means the fit curve will be created in normal hyperbolic or harmonic. Set Dmin more than 0, the fit curve will be created in modified methods.

You need to set up the abandon rate or max life for production forecasting before create a new fit curve.

You can add a new phase of Water onto an existing chart.

Add a Rate vs Date chart type to create a new template of Rate vs Time which can be used to create decline curves.

Modified Hyperbolic (or Modified Harmonic) fit is used to do the forecasts of unconventional cases.  Need to set up a reasonable Dmin value and b Factor firstly before creating the fit. 

For condensate reservoir or well, the future production of condensate can be calculated thru gas forecast and YIELD fit curve.

Users can create new Studies for collections of Assets. The import procedures have the ability to create a new Study from the import dialogue. Users can manually create their own Studies which is shown.

If there is another currency to be presented onto R3 instead of US dollar, need to set the exchange rate to US dollar. Here is an example of the exchange rate between EUR  and US dollar to be set up.

Sometime need to specify a given EUR to an existing fit.

This example inputs a Harmonic analog in a new Asset. This Harmonic is then converted to a Modified Harmonic analog with the input of a Dmin to establish the Exponential conversion point.

For evaluation Assets with common data manipulations or changes, R3 offers the Study Overrides. The input is that of an Asset but the entered data will replace the same data in the processed Asset when this feature is requested on the Model Run Options dialogue.

Most of time, Engineer wants to add the DCA results @ As of Date onto the Rate vs Date chart for screen shots.

Sometime user wants to get Dei  from inputs of qi, qf, Start Date and End Date, or to get qi  from inputs of Dei, qf, Start Date and End Date.

R3 investments are created with specific write-off methods. These can be changed by the user to meet their needs.

R3 allows the user to create multiple production Scenarios. Often it is desirable to move the production forecasts from one Scenario to another Scenario. Perhaps moving the production Scenarios to a newly created Scenario.

If set up Dmin of 0.0 from Preferences, Modified Hyperbolic method will be a normal hyperbolic method.

This example uses the Tools menu Export Forecasts to export one Asset's analog production forecast to an Excel spreadsheet. While only one Asset was selected for this example, all selected Assets' Analog Productions will be exported to the same file.

This example uses a new Asset to enter a Hyperbolic analog and convert it to a Modified Hyperbolic. A modified Hyperbolic is a combination of a Hyperbolic switching to an Exponential at a set percentage decline. The oil phase instance is used because the lighter background provides a clearer picture of the calculated values versus the input values.

Thsi example selects one Asset, selects the BFIT Portrait template and finally generates the report as an Excel .xlsx file.

This example modifies the exponential analog input to include a specified EUR. This is simpler than completely inputting the analog. The example modifies the Brown-Slaughter Asset of the USData Study. For PUD cases, sometimes need to enter DCA parameters from Graphic tool directly.

If R3 database has existing assets and you want to update history data for those assets. By using Asset Key(example API code) to map those assets between R3 database and Excel file, history data of those assets will be updated. If can not find the asset from R3 database, an undefined asset will be created.

This example adds a Gas/Oil ration to an Asset. It might be preferable to add ratios at study level for inheritance to all Assets. However, there is no problem adding ratios to individual Assets or any other level of a Study's hierarchy.

The analog table of the Production Forecast form contains the mathematical declines (or inclines) for the phase instances. These create the production used in forecasts. The available input varies with the DCA Type. The user can input various combinations of the available parameters to create valid analogs. This presentation discusses the parts of a forecast, walks through the displayed variables and input a simple exponential decline.

This example creates multiple analog segments for the oil1 phase instance. A hyperbolic is created. A continuation of the production with a flat period is added. Then an exponential is added. And finally the exponential is removed. Don't be concerned with the values entered or the logic of the series of analogs. The demonstration is for adding and deleting analog segments.

This example adds an Oil/Gas ration to an Asset. It might be preferable to add ratios at study level for inheritance to all Assets. However, there is no problem adding ratios to individual Assets or any other level of a Study's hierarchy.

If there is an Excel file which has many wells with historical data and uniform formats,  those wells and history data can be transferred into R3 database.

If you want to batch create a new study with a lot of assets, suggest to import them from an excel file.

This example select a series of Assets to report using a standard selection technique. There are various methods of selecting Assets consecutively or randomly. The report template selected in the BFIT Portrait template.

If the gas well or gas reservoir has gas production and pressure/z data,  you can estimate nature gas volume in place and EUR by  Pressure vs GasCum template

For an oil reservoir  or oil well, the future production of dissolved gas can be calculated from  oil forecast and GOR forecast.

Sometime need to split the existing curve into two or more segments

This is an example of the simplified method of running an evaluation of an Asset or an Asset and its descendants with the USModel and creating  parental summaries, Rollups, along the way.

There are two ways to create an exponential fit: Using shortcut keys or manually operations.

This example goes through the steps of creating an investment. It will create another tangible investment with the ACRS5 tax write-off.

Adding Assets to a Study can be dome manually or by one of the import methods. These steps go through the process of manually creating a new Asset.

R3 has a few investment groups  that can be easily added. One group that contains three investments, Tangible, intangible and leasehold is probably already added. There are three other groups that contain one investment each. This investment corresponds to the group name.

Input filters can be used for various reasons and mathematical functions. This examples explores the use of an input filter to reduce the oil price by a percentage which represents a risk factor on the price.
