Scribe’s new VP of Product, Karishma Irani, shares why she’s excited to join Scribe on their journey to unlock ways for teams to do their best work.

Introduction

About 2 weeks ago, I started a new role as VP of Product at Scribe, and have received reactions ranging from “I use Scribe almost every day and love it” to “Their TikToks are very cool”, so I thought I’d write a little blurb about why I’m excited for this next chapter of my career.

In every role I’ve ever accepted, I’ve placed a strong emphasis on having an impact. As a product builder, that boils down to 3 things for me – is it a product I’m proud to build, is it a team I’m proud to build with, and is it a mission that I’m excited to commit to?

A product I’m excited to use

Having spent the last decade building and scaling products at LaunchDarkly and New Relic, I was initially hesitant to leave the developer tooling space. What I loved about it was the ability to build products for developers with developers who used the products we built (fun to say, right?). When the team uses the product on a daily basis, it helps build a strong muscle for user experience and empathy that is impossible to achieve even through hundreds of customer calls and interviews.

In my first week at Scribe, I received 20+ scribes from our Finance, TechOps, and HR teams to help me get onboarded to the right tools and processes. In previous jobs, I’m used to onboarding being a week-long, meeting-filled process, so this was a refreshing change and a great way to experience the magic of the product firsthand.

A bar-raising team

If you are like me and get your energy from collaborating on ideas and seeing them come to life quickly, then you know the importance of having the right team by your side. This was the top reason why I joined Scribe.

Every person I spoke with during my interview process was sharp, humble, and thoughtful. This was clear evidence of the bar-raising culture that Jennifer and Aaron have instilled since day one, and the emphasis on hiring people who love to do excellent work while upleveling every one around them.

If you’ve worked with me before, then you know that I value purposefulness and urgency. At Scribe, we have a team that obsesses over customer problems, pushes the boundaries of what software has done before, and most importantly, has fun and supports each other during that process.

A mission that energizes me

If you’ve read @Jennifer Smith’s Series B announcement, you know that we have a bold and ambitious mission, and in a lot of ways, we’re just getting started. Having said that, we’ve already helped over 1 million teams uplevel their work — from scaling startups to over 97% of the Fortune 100. Companies like New York Life and Intel are using Scribe to help unleash the best ways of working across their teams.

During my initial chat with the founders, I rambled on about the ways in which Scribe could’ve made me more efficient and productive in previous roles. I’m humbled to be part of this mission and and am excited to see how, together with our customers, we can can make best practices a shared language across every organization!
